Guest opinion: Davis County needs Scott Fletcher as commissioner
My name is Jen Brown. I grew up in Davis County. I attended Woods Cross High School and then Weber State University. It was very important to me to stay in Bountiful. I wanted to raise my kids where I grew up. My husband and I left Utah for graduate school, but we were able to buy a home in Davis County and move back after we graduated.
We have been blessed to have five boys. I have had so much concern about what is happening to Davis County and the price of everything. I honestly can’t believe how expensive the houses are. It feels like families are getting squeezed from every direction.
I heard about the proposal in Davis County to raise our property tax by 30%. I attended the Truth in Taxation meeting that addressed this tax increase. There were so many people they had to have multiple overflow rooms. The meeting was around three hours. I stayed to the entire thing. I watched one citizen after another get up and plead for the taxes to not be raised.
As the meeting came to an end I saw Commissioner John Crofts speak against the tax increase and then the other two commissioners vote for a 15% property tax increase for Davis County. The feeling I had was that there needed to be a different mindset in the county in regard to spending and cutting. I felt that John Crofts needed someone that he could work with to tighten the budget.
I ended up getting very involved with the Davis County Commission race because of meeting Scott Fletcher. The night of the Truth in Taxation meeting we talked with each other and I could tell he was feeling the same concerns I was. Scott decided to throw his hat in the ring for Commissioner Seat A.
Scott asked me if I would help him with his campaign. I didn’t really have time to do that, but I knew he was making a big sacrifice to run for office. He had all the same concerns I had about Davis County and the future for our kids and grandkids. I knew he would be an excellent commissioner.
Scott is a physicist and very smart. He has a unique background in that he oversees multi-million dollar projects for the government designing rocket motors. He knows how to work with all kinds of people.
He has the kind of personality that you know he means what he says. He hasn’t accepted any money from special interest groups because he doesn’t want to be beholden to them. I have had multiple conversations with him where I can feel his determination to make the county more efficient and to stand for the tax payer.
I hope the citizens will vote for Scott Fletcher for Davis County Commissioner Seat A. He is who we need at this time!
Scott is endorsed by the Davis County Republican Party, Davis County Conservatives, Utah Republican Veterans Caucus, and many citizens across Davis County.
Jen Brown is a Davis County resident.
