Ogden sign outdated

Oct 21, 2014

Editor,

My daughter, who lives in North Ogden, as do we, was recently driving down Washington Boulevard and was very unfavorably impressed with the old, half-lighted, sign across the road which reads “It pays to live in Ogden.” It seemed like such a run-down sign and a meaningless motto. We have since looked at the sign and were struck with the very same feeling. It looks like something out of the 1930’s. The city of Ogden has made many recent improvements in both physical appearance and in promoting the city and its environment. This sign seems like an oversight in the process of renewing this great town.

We congratulate the city leaders for making Ogden a destination for all kinds of recreational activities and for revitalizing the downtown area. How about a welcome sign that says “Ogden – Adventure Starts Here”? You could also keep the “Home of Weber State University” as well. Though we live in North Ogden, we consider ourselves part of the greater Ogden area, and we are pleased with the direction Ogden is taking. We just recommend taking a look at that old sign.
