Letter: Nuclear power a bridge to our renewable energy future
Re: Standard Dec. 8 reporting power bill increases due to proposed move to renewals and the guest commentary Dec 9th on the failure of solar in the sunny southwest.
I don’t have a problem with eventually moving from fossil fuel to renewable energy. My objection is with the speed at which fossil fuel is being obliterated without regard to our country’s power requirement. Simply stated, at the present pace we will run out of power before renewables can replace fossil fuels and, as a result, we will suffer the consequences.
Our quality of life is already in a downward spiral because we are trying to convert too fast.
A possible solution is to invest in small nuclear power plants. For information search “Small Nuclear reactors” on the internet. This is more realistic than the unattainable California mandate of “all electric cars by 2035” and, most of all, achievable. Also we should pursue research into the recently announced fusion breakthrough.
We must have an abundance of power in order to retain our standard of living and remain Keeper of the Peace.
