Letter: Fate of the Roy Recreation Complex hangs in the balance

Jun 18, 2022

To all Roy City Residents interested in what the Roy City Council is proposing in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, there was a council workshop meeting on Tuesday, June 14 where the budget was discussed. The biggest item in that discussion was the future of the Roy City Recreation Complex.

The outcome of that workshop was that if the budget is passed as proposed, the Roy City Recreation Complex would be closed and cease to exist on July 1, 2022. The council is almost equally divided in their decision with some council members very much in favor of keeping the complex open, but the majority appears to be in favor of closing it. The decision will be made by one vote, either for, or against the closing of the complex.

There is a Roy City Council meeting Tuesday, June 21, 2022 where a vote will be taken on the budget as proposed or as amended, which would have to be amended at the June 21, 2022 council meeting.

The meeting on June 21 is open to the public for input but in reviewing the video of the workshop, which is available for viewing on the internet, unless that one vote can be swayed by public input by attending and voicing your opinion regarding the complex the complex will be closed.

It is imperative that interested Roy Citizens attend the council meeting and voice your opinion as to the future of the complex. To get information on the start time of the meeting please call the Roy City Administration Office at 801 774-1000.

In checking the Roy City Website it shows review of the FINAL budget by Roy Citizens, as amended (if it is different that the proposed budget) will be at 5:30 PM on June 28, 2022 at 5:30 PM.
