Letter: Lesser is a model representative for District 10

Sep 23, 2022

I am writing to recommend the election of Rosemary Lesser, MD, to continue to represent district 10 in the Utah House of Representatives. I have known Rosemary for over 20 years as both a colleague and as the former Chief Medical Officer at Ogden Regional Hospital. Over the years, she has shown that she has the characteristics to be a great representative.

First, and most importantly, she has the right motivation: She cares about people. She has no hidden agendas or divided loyalties. Whether she was caring for veterans, refugees or the women in her practice she has shown her compassion for all. She has dedicated her legislative agenda to improving the health and environment of the people of Utah.

Second, she brings a unique perspective to the Utah legislature. She is already a trusted expert in healthcare policy. Her opinion is frequently sought out by other legislators. But, she also approaches problems from the perspective of a well trained clinician. Like all good clinicians she “listens to her patients”. She gains first hand information from her constituents. She works to synthesize that information with extensive research about the issue. She can then craft a response that is measured and appropriate for the problem before her.

Finally, she is willing to put in the time and effort needed to excel at her job. As an obstetrician, she had to be prepared for every problem and emergency which came her way. As a legislator, she has shown that same drive in learning the nuances of each measure that crosses her desk.

Rosemary Lesser, MD, has the right motivation, a unique perspective and the work ethic to continue being an outstanding legislator. I encourage you to vote to retain her to represent district 10.
