Letter: LDS Church’s political declaration was a welcome sight
Donald Trump’s criminal behavior has finally shocked even Mormon leadership out of their customary silence on all matters political.
It has been long understood that Mormonism is synonymous with Republican politics. Therefore, it was a surprise that the LDS First Presidency would, in a rare political statement, declare “straight party voting is a threat to democracy.”
That observation is surely a thinly-veiled appeal to the faithful to help avoid the national disaster that would inevitably result from the re-election of Donald Trump.
Their statement may be a little tepid, but it is at least a very welcome move in the right direction.
