Letter: Speak out against Box Elder County gravel pit plans

Dec 20, 2023

If you are concerned with a gravel pit east of Willard Bay State Park, (which is already in direct sight) and proposed to expand higher on the mountain than any existing pit in the area and extend its life by 35 years. Please send an opposing email to The Box Elder County Planning Commission.

Email address: slyons@boxeldercounty.org

Subject: Opposition to the Rezone for Willard City Property as a Gravel Pit.

Please include your name and place of residence, and clearly express your objection to the rezone of Willard City Property for gravel pit expansion.

If you know anyone else who might support stopping this rezone for expanding this gravel pit, please forward them a copy of this information.

You can also remind the Box Elder Commissioners why this rezone should be denied. Not only is it within direct view of Willard Bay State Park, but Box Elder County has a standard in their Land Use Code that states, ‘The Proposed Amendment be consistent with the Goals, Objectives and Policies of County’s General Plan.

The Box Elder County General Plan aims to protect sensitive, critical natural lands. This is done to preserve the natural beauty of the area, protect the environment, and maintain the quality of life for residents.

The “VISION STATEMENT”: …, Box Elder county’s communities and countryside have served us well for generations. Together we have enjoyed a high quality of life in our small towns, surrounded by productive working lands and the natural beauty of the mountains and the Great Salt Lake. As we look into the future together, we view these assets as the foundation to our future.

Thank you for your time, and please take a moment to send your email.
