Letter: The best and only way toward American prosperity

Dec 20, 2023

“The best of times,” and “the worst of times,” seem to be upon us as we see such incredible applications of science and general abundance of opportunities juxtaposed to increased lawlessness and despair. Certainly, highlighted must be the choices people make that lead to good and bad consequences. Things are not what they first appear to be, which is a problem for those not willing to dig deeper into causes of success or failure.

As young marrieds we bought our first home during the 18-20% mortgage interests of the Jimmy Carter presidency. Carter was reportedly a saintly man under whose administration the country was in chaos and confusion. Along came Ronald Reagan the sinner who righted the ship improving economic growth and opportunities for all. Carter might have been the choice of many for “priest” but Reagan was obviously better. Hence the popularity of Trump, under whose presidency peace reigned and economic numbers were far better than the pious Biden.

Trump is called corrupt by those who love chaos and confusion, as every conceivable fabrication is used to indict him for supposed crimes, while Biden gets away with more verifiable crimes with a shrug and ignoring that is mind-blowing. I believe a deeper look into things would show that those who benefit from inflation, higher interest rates, and general lawlessness point the finger at Trump as corrupt because he frustrates their evil designs. “Bidenomics” and twisted morality are the bane of our times, the true pandemic which we face.

Conservative economic and moral choices can still lead to happy, successful lives for those willing to pay the price of fealty, effort, and making better choices. Therein lies the secret to having “the best of times,” even amidst the chaos. The easy way is often not the best way; the best way is harder, but worth the effort. Jesus Christ taught us in plain and simple words; He is the best and only way! We must look for those to lead us who may not appear best at first glance, but in function and application are truly the most Christ-like towards all.
