Letter: Please, Ogden police, write more traffic tickets

On the Traffic Ticket issue? And the critics? I think OPD needs to write more. Ogden has on average 5 to 15 Traffic Fatalities per year..men, women and children. The Fatalities do not include all the hundreds of injures. The financial cost is obviously well into the millions each year. This is a common amount for cities of similar size.

OPD does a great job, and traffic accidents and fatalities and injuries are just a reality of life. But obviously the goal is to decrease the numbers, but it seems OPDs critics want more accidents.

Traffic Tickets are intended to save lives by regulating people’s poor and dangerous driving habits to keep Ogden safe.

Personally I have had two really bad car accidents in Ogden in the last 10 years, not my fault, both cars were totaled. I was injured and transported by ambulance both times. I still have to deal with the residual harm the injuries did and probably always will. I am one of many thousands in Ogden who have had this happen over the years. The drivers that hit me had horrible driving records and no insurance.

The narrative in the media ignores that the goal of traffic tickets is to save lives which some critics seem to not want to do.

As it relates to evaluation of OPD officers’ performance? I am not qualified to have an opinion on that really…which is also true of most of the people out there being critics, but that is not stopping them. They seems to want more traffic fatalities and less safe streets Many people want to bike in Ogden on the Streets, we have all sorts of amenities to support that so the safer the better.

The question that should be asked to any critics of Justified Traffic Tickets….if a ticket written…saved their life or a family member’s life by preventing an accident…are they still against it?
