Letter: The mind is a terrible thing to waste

Jun 1, 2023

On a recent evening I decided to go for a walk along the Ogden river by the Botanical Gardens and what I saw nearly knocked my socks off. A young couple went under the yellow warning tape that was up to keep people from going near the raging Ogden river, took off their shoes and stuck their feet in the water. Now anyone with a functional mind knows or should that the banks are wet, soggy, and slippery with mud so to go near it is dangerous. The undertow of a raging river can and will pull you into the river and there is a very good chance you will drown. Now two or three weeks have gone by and they still haven’t found the body of a young lady who fell into that same river and was swept away, and these two individuals did that? I don’t know about anyone else, but it’s common sense to stay on the other side of a yellow warning tape, much less to go under it to stick your feet in a raging river, so I’m guessing that couple lacks having common sense. And as far as I’m concerned, there is no unit of measure for that level of stupidity, none. Please folks, use some common sense and don’t go near that or any other river and pay attention to warning labels and yellow tape, the life you save, might be your own.
