Letter: Time to get the Weber County Justice Center fixed
No one likes car trouble and there are multiple ways to deal with it. You can just ignore the problem and hope that you don’t get stranded on a cold snowy night. You can take it to a paid parking lot and leave it there hoping the vehicle will heal itself. Or you take it to a repair shop and have the service writer evaluate the problem and have his team find the best course of repair to get your vehicle back on the road. The ideal outcome is something that will last for years and not cost an arm and a leg.
Rather than ignoring the problem, Weber County Sheriff Ryan Arbon, has come up with a similar solution for our incarcerated jail population. Parking offenders in a jail cell and hoping that they heal themselves and all the problems that placed them there brings little value. Identifying the problem, but not having the proper resources for intervention doesn’t work either. The Weber County Justice Center proposal brings all the tools and necessary resources under one roof to change lives and stop the merry-go-round of our criminal justice system. Nothing is more heartbreaking than having a loved one with mental health or addiction issues and having them reprimanded into the justice system, as this event adds another level of excruciating stress for the individual and family.
The bonding for the Weber County Justice Center is on the ballot this November. This proposal is a smart use of tax dollars and will reap extraordinary benefits for years to come. Please invest in your community and the lives of others. The old way of managing offenders is outdated and the cost just keeps growing. Weber County voters have an opportunity with approval of the bond to make Sheriff Arbon’s incredible vision a reality. Your ballot will be arriving the first week of November, please vote yes to the bond and get your ballot back in the mail as soon as possible. Let’s get everyone back out on the road.
