The 15th Annual American Spirit Award will be given this year on September 11, Patriots Day. A Weber County man will receive the award at the North Ogden Public Safety building at 6PM in the Community Room. The award recognizes individuals for demonstrated qualities associated with American Spirit. The award began in 2010 with an essay contest sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club, it continued in 2011 then was taken public for people in our area, it has transitioned in the last four years to an award that recognizes American Spirit demonstrated by individuals and has been given to Sheriffs Department personnel, Police Officers and last year to North View Fire Department.

This year a Marine Corps veteran who served in combat is being recognized. In past years it was given posthumously to Major Brent Taylor and also to his wife Jennie Taylor.
