Letter: Changes needed in Ogden’s recreation department

Dec 28, 2024

The state of Ogden City’s recreational management raises significant concerns, particularly regarding the leadership of Recreation Manager Ed Bridge. Public records indicate that in 2023, Mr. Bridge received a total compensation of $213,377, which was 195% higher than the average and 217% higher than the median total compensation in the City of Ogden.

Despite this substantial compensation, the Competitive Sports Board under his purview is notably dysfunctional. The board comprises 15 members whose terms expired in 2019, yet they continue to serve without reappointment. Alarmingly, some members reside outside Ogden, with one having relocated to California six years ago.

This mismanagement reflects poorly on Mr. Bridge and Ogden City’s oversight. The community deserves accountable leadership that ensures active and appropriately staffed boards to oversee recreational activities.

It’s imperative for Ogden City officials to address these issues promptly. Reevaluating Mr. Bridge’s role and implementing stricter oversight measures are necessary steps to restore public trust and enhance the quality of the city’s recreational programs.
