Letter: Advice for advisors: Remember who speaks for God

Feb 16, 2024

In regard to the published (S-E, Monday, 29 Jan.) letter to the editor of advice for new Latter-day Saint Apostle Kearon, I have some advice for such self-proclaimed advisors, and others who do not understand the workings of God and the scriptures. The Bible and scriptures are of a spiritual nature and are understood only by help from the holy spirit. God loves his children indeed, all of them, but favors those who keep his commandments; He blesses the good, and punishes the wicked, as any loving parent will do for the long-run benefit of their children, that they may learn to choose the good and shun the evil. Love does not imply approval or acceptance of every thought and deed of his children.

Those who would give advice to even God himself ought to be careful, as he surely knows much more than they do about every situation. He blesses and guides in wisdom, grace, and truth. It is better to spend our time and agency in seeking to draw closer to God, not in advising Him as to how things ought to be done. Elder Kearon is one of his chosen Apostles, of no less stature than the Apostles of old, and takes his marching orders from our very loving Heavenly Father, not from self-proclaimed advisors.
