Letter: Protect Utah businesses’ access to critical digital tools

Jan 13, 2024

Small businesses in Utah have proven their resiliency over the last few years. Many of us have thrived despite the pandemic-era challenges thrown our way. This success is partly due to the ability to access free, easy-to-use digital tools that allow business owners to grow their business and expand their customer base.

These tools are made accessible at little to no cost, thanks to American tech companies, and their continued success is critical to my own. It’s therefore important to me that the Biden administration ensure that it promotes tech-friendly policies that help foster competition in the tech sector. Increased competition leads to greater consumer choice, driving down prices and making these tools even better for consumers and business owners like me.

Instead, I’m concerned that the administration is punishing successful American companies for their achievements and overregulating the tech industry. I firmly believe in competition, and I know these companies got to where they are because they innovate and outsmart their competitors. That’s the beauty of the free market — and that’s something that should be preserved.

I’m grateful that our leaders here in Utah feel similarly and continue to make our state a welcome environment for small businesses like mine. We need them to protect the digital tools Utah business owners like me rely on so we can continue to grow for years to come.
