Letter: Nadolski good so far as Ogden mayor, but more can be done

Mar 7, 2024

Our new Ogden Mayor has scored a few runs in the first inning. Breeze airlines, $5 million for our canyon waterline and most importantly firing the planner that was destroying our city. So a couple of issues. What will you do about my 70 year street with iron waterlines? This 1000 foot road has square patches every 50 feet. My road has been sealed and chipped so many times that I can no longer get in my driveway. Imagine the costs of fixing just my street, then multiply by the number of similar streets. If Ogden booked their deferred maintenance we would be bankrupt many times.

And what will you do about our waistline? Our current BMI puts us in the morbidly obese category. Don’t believe me? Look at employee numbers in comparable size cities. Ogden 672, Layton 393, South Jordon 413, Lehi 382, Orem 443. We need to go on a diet and lose at least 100 white collar employees. This would save $10 million and drop us from morbidly obese to being merely obese. I’m talking about hard work and being tough. In the past when the going got tough the tough went shopping. Mostly for new staff. A department by department comparison with these similar size cities is shocking. Ogden politicians need to gird up their loins and go to battle.
