Letter: Trump brings more shame and disgrace to America
On Aug. 15, 2025, on national TV, President Donald Trump welcomed with open arms and the red-carpet treatment a well-known murdering dictator as though he were a king.
Three days later, on national TV, he ranted on for several minutes about how corrupt our previous President, Joe Biden, was. Biden had his faults, but did he start a war that has killed thousands of innocent men, women and children?
Trump wants to blame him for it. In his TV rant, Trump said if he had been President there would not have been a war. Of course he knows everything.
From Day 1, Trump has given Russian President Vladimir Putin the upper hand. First off he tells the world he admires dictators and gives them credit for being smart when actually they are just greedy and hungry for more power. On Aug. 15, Trump played right into Putin’s hand again so I guess Putin is smart.
As long as the GOP falls under Trump’s spell, America will suffer more shame and disgrace. It’s hard to know if the nation will be able to stop it.
Also, I have given a lot of thought to Veronique De Rugy’s commentary in the Standard-Examiner’s Aug. 2 edition.
What we should be asking is what kind of freedom and democracy are we willing to pay for?
Without our democracy (which our current administration is gradually destroying), it will not matter how much we care about our trillions of dollars of debt.
If our current president can stop our true journalists from doing their jobs honestly, there is no telling what else he can stop. He does not like negative journalism about him but continues to cause one problem after another. One has to wonder whether he ever sleeps. He must use every spare minute thinking up another subject of controversy.
We know there is much fraud, abuse and waste in our government. It seems logical to investigate every government bill and delete all the ones that have outlived their time, even if it takes years.
Through the ages there has always been haves and have-nots. Our country appears to be getting more have-nots because of inflation, job loss and illness, which is causing more and more homeless. Our current administration seems to be napping when it comes to this subject. As well off as we are as Americans, we should be doing more for the have-nots instead of less.
Our government talks in billions and they add up. It’s several billion to house the illegal immigrants and a few more billion to build Florida’s Alcatraz Prison. We have no idea how many billions of dollars it is to hunt down all the undocumented in our nation.
It’s not just sad; it’s downright frightening.
