Letter: ‘Fix Our Forest Act’ is one we should support
The constant stream of news about how Trump policies are damaging our environment is discouraging. Our changing climate is putting all Utahns at risk of wildfire, flash floods, air pollution and drought. Learning that the administration’s policies are undermining the Forest Service’s efforts to prevent wildfire is disturbing, especially for Utahns who are losing their fire insurance or faced with unaffordable policies. Too many politicians don’t take climate change seriously, but the insurance companies sure do! Many Utahns are losing their homeowner’s insurance due to wildfire danger. And Trump’s tax cuts mean $500 million less in revenue for our state over the next two years.
What to do? Urge our members of Congress to support the Fix Our Forest Act (S.1462). The legislation reduces wildfire risk and promotes science-based forest restoration. The bill includes provisions to increase resiliency to catastrophic wildfires, restore forest health, and build fire-safety defenses for communities in high-risk areas. Learn more at the Citizens’ Climate Lobby website.
It’s time to act. Call Senators Lee and Curtis ask them to support this bipartisan legislation.
