Letter: Concerns about the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

Jun 27, 2025

My question is if this bill is all about spending and reduction, why did they hide in the bill Sections 70302 and 43201, and modify Hearing protection actin Section 112029? It is interesting that two members of the House of Representatives had no idea these sections were in the bill. I have reached out to Senator Curtis twice asking specific questions regarding the three sections of the bill. I have received two exact form letters. I reached out to Rep. Blake Moore and asked why he voted for those sections, but have received zero response.

Section 70302 would severely restrict the authority of federal courts to hold government employees in contempt of court. If Trump, a government employee, ignored the federal courts, the judiciary could not force Trump to comply. Courts have ruled 170 times against Trump. This bill would put those decisions at risk. At a recent Judicial Senate hearing, Kate Shaw, a University of Pennsylvania law professor, stated: “A system in which there are no restraints on the president is a very dangerous system.”

Section 43201c would impose a 10-year ban enforcement on all state and local laws that regulate artificial intelligence (AI), including rules for AI during political campaigns and elections. There are more than 20 states that have enacted these laws. A 10-year ban on enforcing these laws could mean a decade of false information. We already receive so much false information during elections; why do we want to increase the lies?

The modifications to Hearing Protection Act sections 112029 lifts a $200 tax on gun silencers. This $200 tax has been in place since 1934. I am sure ear plugs and ear protection devices are cheaper than silencers. Why do we need cheap silencers?

We need to contact our government officials and have these sections removed from the bill.
