Letter: Keep your germs to yourself

Feb 10, 2026

They say that this cold and flu season could be really dangerous. It might not be just a runny nose, nagging cough, and a bag full of over-the-counter meds all over our nightstands. It promises to be a month-long, very painful cough, hourly visits to the toilet, yuk, and a large bill for doctor prescribed meds.

Sounds miserable! But to senior citizens, those with concerning immunity issues, children too young to get the vaccines or to those who don’t believe in the benefits of proven vaccines, this year’s illnesses could be life threatening.

It concerns me when people are out in public, at work, or shopping when they are obviously ill. I heard one man, who was coughing and sneezing into a handful of tissues, rationalize that he only had a cold or whatever and so if he shared a few germs then no big deal.

I don’t want a miserable cold or a month-long cough. I definitely do not want to spend days laying on my bathroom floor with a bucket and a lot of toilet paper in hand.

Keep in mind that for some a cold, the flu or the bad viruses can send some to the ICU or their pre-paid cemetery plot.

Remember that a person can share their dangerous germs up to three days before they even have symptoms. If an ill person just touches something and then a vulnerable person touches that item, they can get your miserable or dangerous illness.

Please be responsible and keep your germs to yourself. It is not just a cold, flu, or virus.

Don’t get me started on measles.
