LETTER: Support for President Trump’s ‘Square Deals’
Having seen reference to “the Donroe Doctrine” I must comment that it seems actually to follow 26th U. S. President Theodore Roosevelt’s “Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine,” which is to interject control over other Western Hemisphere nations to protect and defend U.S.A. interests. Roosevelt acted to build the Panama Canal, Trump has acted to return it to U.S. control over that of China and other foreign U.S. nations.
It seems there are many parallels or likenesses of Pres. Trump to Teddy R.: Roosevelt has long been considered one of the 5 greatest presidents of the U.S. Teddy’s mantra of “speak softly and carry a big stick, and you will go far” does not fit Trump, however, who has fallen into trouble as predicted by Teddy if one should fall into “foolish and undignified self-glorification” and “loose-tongued denunciation of other peoples.” Therein lies Trumps downfall, and likely reason he will not be considered one of the 6 greatest presidents.
We might remember Teddy annexed Hawaii to the U.S., now our 50th state, as we see Trump’s desire to bring Greenland and Canada onboard. Roosevelt used executive orders for many things, small and great, and got away with it as most of the country allowed; Trump seems to be doing likewise, to the familiar protests of power-seeking liberals. Trump’s calling out of the fraud and corruption in government, such as now exposed in Minnesota, is similar to Teddy’s life-long goal of giving all a “square deal,” and removing corruption in high places. Minnesota protests now ongoing seem to be purposed to mask the ongoing corruption there.
As Bible-believing Americans I believe we have the task of ignoring, forgiving Trump’s bluster and self-aggrandizement to support his initiatives to expose corruption and boldly promote U.S. interests at home and abroad. This is because the U.S. still carries the banner of freedom and “square-dealing” for all the world and must remain strong to do so. It is lamentable that Trump seems not to have the same moral compass as did Teddy.
