From the editor: An introduction

By Jordan Carroll - | Jul 26, 2018

Like many businesses, the Standard-Examiner has ebbed and flowed with the changes of time since its inception in 1888, but its commitment has always remained married to the community.

I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of the future of the Standard-Examiner, and more importantly the community it serves.

I fiercely believe in the importance of community journalism. All good things begin at a local level. After all, it is decisions that take place in our city council chambers, school boards and among our county commissions that impact our lives most directly and most deeply. It is our neighbors that influence our daily lives.

Our goal as a newspaper is to serve the community to the best of our ability and with that will come reporting on necessary public safety issues, watchdog journalism, sharing developments in our schools, notifying the public about economic development plans and how that impacts our city and mountain landscapes, as well as providing you more in Go! on the fun activities available to families and friends in Weber and surrounding counties – and yes, that will include a calendar.

Many of you have been longtime readers of the Standard-Examiner. We appreciate you. As the new editor, I look forward to interacting with many of you, listening to what your concerns in the community are. Reach out to us, whether that is through a news tip or story idea, letter to the editor, or observation that you believe we should be aware of. I genuinely and sincerely mean it.

I know you’ll hold us accountable. We’re up for the challenge; we’ll continue to work to build an even better news source and, with your help, a better community.
