NORTH SALT LAKE — A man who beat up and choked his wife is now facing felony charges, according to probable cause statement.

Daniel Quinn Virgo, 32, was booked in the Davis County Jail early Thursday morning after police were called to an apartment in North Salt Lake shortly after midnight.

A child, who was crying and shaking, opened the apartment door and motioned to the police to come inside. The child then motioned to a closed bedroom door, according to the document filed at the jail.

Police officers opened the bedroom door and found Teresa Johnson, crying and bloody, standing in a corner. When police asked her to step out of the room, she shook her head no, according to the document.

When officers asked Johnson if Virgo, who is her husband, was in the room, she pointed to a closed closet door and then told them he had a butcher knife, before she left the room. Police spent 1 1/2 hours negotiating with Virgo, who eventually came out of the closet without the knife, according to the document. He requested an attorney and police did not interview him.

Police went to the hospital and interviewed Johnson, who had injuries to her head, neck, face and thigh, according to the document.

She told officers that Virgo “threw her to the ground, mounted her and banged her head to the ground,” according to the document. She told officers Virgo had dragged her by the hair and also had choked her until she blacked out. He also punched her the face and hit with the knife.

Johnson told officers Virgo “threatened to kill her if she called police,” according to the document.

According to the court website, Virgo is facing domestic violence charges for an incident that happened in March.

He was booked in the jail early Thursday on one count of aggravated kidnapping, one count of aggravated assault and one count of commission of domestic violence in front of a child. He is being held without bail.

The Davis County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case before filing formal charges in 2nd District Court.
