HOWELL — A 7-year-old boy has died and another person is in critical condition after a rollover crash Thursday morning on Interstate 84 in Box Elder County.

A pickup truck traveling west on I-84 crashed and rolled multiple times at 5:20 a.m. near the town of Howell, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said.

The truck was carrying four people, two adults and two children, Royce said. A 7-year-old boy died at the scene and an adult woman was transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital in critical condition, Royce said.

In a later statement, Lt. Lee Perry said witnesses saw the boy walking outside the vehicle after the crash, but reported he suffered a seizure, stopped breathing and died despite CPR being administered.

Perry’s statement said the woman suffered a severe head injury.

An adult male and 10-year-old girl were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police believe the adults were grandparents to the children and were traveling from Texas to Washington.

He said the cause of the crash is still being investigated.
