• UPDATE: Police identify driver in fatal Box Elder crash
HONEYVILLE — A 19-year-old woman from Layton has died in a rollover on Interstate 15 in Box Elder County.
At about 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, the woman was driving a Ford Focus south on I-15 near milepost 370, which is near the town of Honeyville, according to a statement from Utah Highway Patrol.
According to witnesses, the car was in the left lane and was passing a car in the right lane, but drifted to the left onto the rumble strip when the driver over-corrected, swerving back to the right, the statement said. The driver, attempting to regain control, swerved left and off the road into the median.
The car hit the cable barrier in the median, rolled and crossed over the cable until it came to rest on its wheels on the northbound roadway, the statement said.
The woman died after succumbing to apparent internal injuries, police say.
Police say the driver was wearing a seatbelt, and she has not been identified pending notification to family.
She was the only person in the vehicle, but police are trying to find veterinary care for a dog that was also in the car, the statement said.
