ROY — A suspect has been booked into the Weber County Correctional Facility after an alleged attempted kidnapping in Roy.

According to the Roy City Police Department, a 10-year-old girl yelled and fought when a man, identified by the police officers as 44-year-old Richard Palmer, allegedly tried to “grab” her. The incident occurred around 8:49 p.m. Friday evening.

Detective Joshua Taylor said the officers were able to identify the man by looking at surveillance footage from a nearby gas station where he had been before the alleged incident.

“We were able to interview him where he admitted to attempting to take the girl,” Taylor said.

He was booked on one count of child kidnapping.
