LAYTON — A Layton man allegedly cut his hands and smeared blood on his wife to “get the devil out” of her on Thanksgiving Day, police said in charging documents.

During an argument, the man would not let his wife out of a bedroom, according to a Layton Police Department probable cause statement. The man cut his right palm and the back of his left hand and wiped his blood on her face and pants, the affidavit said.

The 54-year-old man smelled of alcohol and he registered 0.17% blood alcohol content on a portable breath test, the document said.

The man was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. after officers responded to a domestic violence call at a mobile home park. He was booked and released at the Davis County Jail in Farmington on suspicion of class A misdemeanor assault and class B misdemeanor unlawful detention.
