OGDEN — An arrest warrant has been issued for an Ogden man believed to have fled to California as police were investigating the alleged long-term sexual abuse of three young girls.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office on Wednesday filed six charges, including rape of a child, aggravated sexual abuse of a child and sodomy on a child, all first-degree felonies, and misdemeanor voyeurism against Jake Ryan Flaherty, 35.

According to an Ogden police probable cause statement, Flaherty allegedly abused the girls, all younger than 15, in incidents as long as eight years ago and continuing to this September. One girl said during an interview at the Children’s Justice Center that she did not know the alleged acts were wrong because Flaherty “told her that it was not wrong.”

Flaherty held a position of trust over the girls, according to charging documents.

When police went to Flaherty’s home with a search warrant Sept. 30, he was not there and has not returned, the probable cause statement said. A detective reported that an acquaintance of Flaherty’s in Corona, California, said on Tuesday that Flaherty arrived there Sunday. The acquaintance said he would not let Flaherty stay, but he believed the man was still in California.

Starting at $4.32/week.
