OGDEN — Gabby Petito, a woman who’s now the focus of a national search by law enforcement officials, made a stop in Ogden only days before she apparently went incommunicado.

The Suffolk County Police Department in New York, the North Port Police Department in Florida and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating the apparent disappearance of Petito, 22. According to media reports, she had been traveling around the United States, including Utah, with her boyfriend.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Petito’s last reported communication was on Aug. 30. Prior to that, according to Suffolk County police, she is thought to have been in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

Before Wyoming, according to posts on her Instagram account, Petito also spent time in Utah — at Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park, among other places. Several posts from July and August show her at the parks.

She also passed through Ogden. Her last Instagram post is dated Aug. 25 and it shows several photos of Petito at The Monarch, the art studio and artist venue in the city. In one, she’s holding what appears to be a rendering of a pumpkin knitted out of yarn with a caption reading, “Happy Halloween.” The distinctive murals at The Monarch of monarch butterflies and white circles on a black background are in the backdrop.

The Monarch referenced the Instagram photos in a Facebook post Tuesday, saying it was reviewing surveillance video from the venue for clues.

“Has anyone seen this beautiful woman?” reads The Monarch post. It goes on: “We are thoroughly examining our security footage from the date of her post for any helpful information. … We are sending love and light to Gabby and her family!”

Thaine Fischer, managing partner at The Monarch, said he had reached out to a hotline created as part of the investigation into the matter to let authorities know Petito’s last Instagram photo came from the Ogden art studio.

“I also let them know we have cameras if that could be of help,” he said in a message to the Standard-Examiner, adding that he hadn’t yet heard back from any law enforcement reps. “At this time, we have no additional information and our thoughts are with her and her family. We pray this has a positive ending.”

Ogden police didn’t immediately respond to a Standard-Examiner query on the matter.

Petito had lived in Blue Point, New York, and her family reported the young woman missing to the Suffolk County Police Department on Saturday, according to a police department post.

Petito had also lived in North Port, Florida, according to the North Port Sun, the local newspaper. “Her boyfriend, Brian Laundries returned to North Port, as did the van they were traveling in. Petito did not,” the newspaper reported.

The North Port Police Department said in a Facebook post that the FBI field office in Tampa was aiding in the investigation. The agency advised the public to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or go to tips.fbi.gov to submit tips.

“Anywhere USA is what we’re working on,” North Port spokesman Josh Taylor told the North Port Sun, alluding to the broad area that’s the focus of officials’ investigative efforts.
