FARMINGTON — A Bountiful woman has pleaded guilty to felony charges stemming from a confrontation at a Bountiful trailhead that left four people with knife wounds, two of them injured seriously.

Police arrested Mia Ruth Hansen, 20, four days after a July 30 confrontation at the parking lot of the mountainside B. Charging documents alleged that Hansen threatened two juveniles with a knife. Two were stabbed and two others were injured during attempts to take the blade away from Hansen, according to the charges. Afterward, Hansen allegedly tried to cover up evidence and tamper with witnesses.

Hansen and her attorney, Steven Shapiro, reached a plea bargain with the Davis County Attorney’s Office that was filed in 2nd District Court on Tuesday. She pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree felony aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and a charge of third-degree felony obstructing justice. In return, prosecutors agreed to drop two other assault charges, two felony witness-tampering counts and two drug-related misdemeanors.

The aggravated assault charges carry a prison sentence of 1-to-15 years and the obstructing justice charge, up to 5 years. The plea bargain calls instead for Hansen to serve a year in the Davis County Jail and three years of probation. Upon successful completion of probation, the felony counts could be reduced to misdemeanors.

Bountiful police said in the arrest affidavit that after the knifings, Hansen drove to Farmington Pond and allegedly instructed a companion to throw the bloody knife into a dumpster. Hansen and two others returned to the dumpster the next day. The others later told police that Hansen retrieved the knife, soaked it in bleach, put it in a bag and stored it in her trunk.

Police got a warrant to search Hansen’s car. They reported finding two knives, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a bloody towel and an open bottle of vodka. Officers obtained a second warrant later and confiscated a knife found inside a bag in the trunk.

Before the knife incident, Hansen allegedly threatened to kill the two juveniles, the arrest affidavit said.

According to court records, Judge David J. Williams this week signed ongoing protective orders that prohibit Hansen from contacting the victims. No sentencing date has been set.
