The 2nd District Court is seen on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, in downtown Ogden.

OGDEN — A 33-year-old Ogden man has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge for shooting his cousin’s ex-boyfriend during a dispute June 4, 2021.

Ogden police said Dario Deland Muniz and Bailey Chase went to the victim’s apartment to confront him. Charging documents said Muniz hit the man with a rifle and shot him in the abdomen. The 33-year-old victim survived.

In a 2nd District Court plea bargain, Muniz pleaded guilty Dec. 30, 2021, to second-degree felony aggravated assault, down from the originally charged first-degree felony. In return, prosecutors dropped a charge of first-degree felony aggravated burglary.

Muniz is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 10 by Judge Joseph Bean.

Chase, 21, of Harrisville, who also took a plea bargain, was sentenced in October to a suspended prison term of 1 to 15 years and ordered to instead spend a year in the Weber County Jail.
