FARMINGTON — Police arrested a man Monday night after he allegedly fought with and ran over his brother-in-law and then crashed into a fire truck, a building and another car while trying to elude officers.

Sorano Otup, 23, was booked into the Davis County Jail on suspicion of 13 charges, including leaving the scene of an injury accident, failing to stop for police, DUI, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

Farmington police said in a probable cause statement that a caller reported two men fighting on the parking strip of Joy Drive. One, identified as Otup, got into a car and allegedly hit the other, who suffered minor injuries.

Officers soon responded to a hit-and-run crash reported at 650 West and Main Street. The car matched the description of Otup’s, and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper spotted it at Park Lane and Main. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle but the driver fled south on Main.

Otup’s car next crashed into a building at 50 South and 200 East, then headed back toward Joy Drive, where his car allegedly collided with a Farmington fire truck that was leaving the fight location.

A Farmington officer then stopped Otup’s car with a PIT maneuver, or precision immobilization technique, in which an officer crashes into a fleeing vehicle, causing it to spin and stop.

The arrest affidavit said Otup told police he drank a six-pack of beer in Salt Lake City and drank whiskey while driving to Farmington.
