FARMINGTON — Prosecutors on Thursday filed several charges against a man who allegedly walked naked into his ex-wife’s home and turned on the gas stove, intending to blow up the dwelling.

Police said they arrived at the scene of a neighborhood disturbance Saturday and a crowd of adults and children pointed out Brady Lynn Jenkins, 44, walking nearby wearing only sunglasses. Officers intercepted Jenkins as he walked away and he knelt, put up his hands and told them to shoot him, according to charging documents.

Farmington officers took Jenkins back to the home, where they said he told them he had taken “way too much” LSD, took off his clothes and entered the house. The arrest affidavit alleged that Jenkins told them he wanted to “leave a surprise” for his ex-wife.

A teenage girl told officers she was home alone when Jenkins allegedly walked in, turned on the gas on the stove and began laughing and smashing dishes. Police said they asked Jenkins about the gas and he allegedly said, “I was planning to blow the house up.” Laughing, he added, “I would not go inside the house if I were you.”

Police said they smelled gas and called Farmington firefighters, who turned off the valve and cleared out the gas.

A neighbor of the woman told police Jenkins had walked into his home through the garage, naked, and into the house where the neighbor’s daughters, 18 and 14, were sitting. The man ordered Jenkins to leave.

Jenkins was released to Davis County pretrial services, but on Tuesday, he tried to buy a gun in Lehi, prompting the Davis County Attorney’s Office to file a motion asking that bail be set.

In the detention motion, prosecutors noted that the police probable cause statement listed only misdemeanor offenses, but upon review, prosecutors decided felony counts were warranted.

Jenkins is charged with attempted aggravated arson and burglary, both second-degree felonies, and misdemeanor criminal trespass and lewdness.

The detention motion said Jenkins posed a substantial risk Saturday to several people, including police, “who unknowingly entered a house filling with gas.” His attempted gun purchase, which was reported to police by the retailer, is concerning to the victims and prosecutors, the motion said.

Jenkins remained out of custody Friday.
