OGDEN — A teenage boy remained in critical condition Friday, a day after he was injured in an apparently accidental shooting, and a man at the scene was charged with drug and weapons offenses.

An 18-year-old, identified in court documents as  Zedekiah Pool, was handling a gun and the victim, about 15 years old, was shot in the neck, Ogden Police Lt. Michael Rounkles said. The firearm involved was a handgun.

On Friday morning, the Weber County Attorney’s Office charged Pool with possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony, and possession or operation of a clandestine drug laboratory, a second-degree felony.

Police and paramedics responded to the shooting report at 12:15 p.m. in the 400 block of River Drive. An Ogden Police Department probable cause statement said officers found Pool trying to help the victim, who was bleeding from the neck. The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The affidavit alleged that Pool had consumed marijuana and was manipulating the firearm’s slide when the gun fired. After obtaining a search warrant, police said they found a 9 mm gun and a spent shell casing in the home’s living room.

A further search led to the discovery of a suspected psilocybin mushroom growing operation in a bedroom, including venting and tenting equipment, the affidavit alleged.

Rounkles said the shooting is believed to have been accidental. The probable cause statement said detectives are investigating further whether additional charges relating to the shooting may be warranted.

Prosecutors asked for a court order requiring that Pool be held without bail at the Weber County Jail pending further court appearances. As of Friday afternoon, Pool was not in custody.
