CLEARFIELD — Police said self-defense appeared to be the motive for a shooting Wednesday night that left a suspect hospitalized with a gunshot wound.
One man brandished a firearm at a second man and the two fought over control of the gun and the first man was shot, Assistant Police Chief Devin Rogers said Thursday.
Dustin Acosta, 39, later walked into a Layton hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound in the torso, and he is suspected of third-degree felony aggravated assault, Rogers said.
The second man, also 39, was pulled over by Layton police and is cooperating with officers, Rogers said.
The shooting occurred near 1050 S. State St. in Clearfield at about 9:30 p.m.
