Ogden wildfire 95% contained, 15 acres burned

A helicopter dumps water on the Valley Fire in Ogden on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022.OGDEN — A grass and forest fire in the foothills and mountainside above Rainbow Gardens is 95% contained, having burned 15 acres, the Ogden Fire Department said Friday.
“We’re getting pretty close to calling it done,” Deputy Fire Chief Mike Slater said.
The fire started Tuesday afternoon, racing up the hillside to the east and south of the gift shop, 1851 Valley Drive, near the mouth of Ogden Canyon. Firefighters and police evacuated dozens of homes on Buchanan Avenue and 1950 North Street, but no structures were damaged and all evacuees have returned.
Slater said the fire’s cause remains under investigation. He said video feeds and other evidence are being gathered, “and it will take a while.”
Firefighters from multiple agencies fought the fire on the ground and helicopters dumped water on the flames.
