SALT LAKE CITY — The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday the indictment of two Ogden residents in the alleged carjacking of an elderly man on Jan. 30.

Salt Lake City police began pursuing a stolen Mercedes until they ended the chase due to safety concerns, according to court documents. Elvis Tahirovic, 32, and Brittany Ann Peters, 32, were in the car, the indictment alleged.

A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter tracked the Mercedes through Davis, Weber and Box Elder counties and then back into Weber County. The indictment said Utah Highway Patrol troopers used spikes to flatten the car’s tires on Higley Road in Farr West.

The charging documents alleged that Peters ran to a Chevrolet Tahoe stopped at an intersection and opened the driver’s door, soon to be joined by Tahirovic, who allegedly used force to remove the elderly driver from the Tahoe.

The suspects got into the Tahoe but were unable to drive it because the victim had taken the keys, and police then arrested the pair.
