ROY — A threatened school shooting led to the questioning of a Roy High School student on Saturday, according to Roy police and the Weber School District.

School officials and police were alerted Saturday to a social media post that said a shooting would occur at Roy High on Monday, and detectives traced the post to a student, district spokesperson Lane Findlay said Monday.

He said “quite a few” reports about the threatening post and shared copies of it were made to authorities. Other than a threatened shooting, Findlay said he was not aware of any evidence that planning of a shooting had occurred.

The Roy Police Department said in a media release that the suspect was identified and located later Saturday. Police were working with the Weber County Attorney’s Office to have the case referred to juvenile court, the release said.

Officer Jared Smith said Monday that the 15-year-old student was interviewed with his parents present. He was not arrested, Smith said.

Findlay said the student also could face disciplinary action by school officials.

Findlay urged students or others who see things of concern to report them to police or school officials or on the Safe UT crisis chat and tip line app. “Everyone has a stake in school safety in these kinds of situations,” he said.
