OGDEN — Weber County prosecutors have formally charged Dallas Martineau with murder in the killing of his brother-in-law in West Haven.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office on Friday formally charged Martineau, 40, of Roy, with a single count of murder, a first-degree felony, in the shooting death of Russell Evans on June 28. He is being held without bail in the Weber County Jail.

According to a probable cause affidavit in the case, Martineau waited outside Evans’ West Haven home and when Evans exited the rear of the residence, Martineau shot him multiple times, killing him. Officials haven’t provided a motive, but Martineau allegedly confessed to Weber County Sheriff’s Office investigators when they subsequently questioned him in the matter.

Martineau, identified as Evans’ brother-in-law in the affidavit, is to appear in court on July 12, according to online court records. He’s charged in 2nd District Court in Ogden.
