Weber County officials name victim in West Haven shooting, express sympathy
OGDEN — The Weber County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed in a shooting late Wednesday in West Haven as Russell Allen Evans.
In a statement Friday, the office also expressed sympathy. “In the wake of the devastating incident that unfolded on June 28, 2023, we stand united in the grief, compassion and support for the victim and their families,” it reads.
Evans, 50, was shot and killed late Wednesday evening outside his West Haven home, allegedly at the hands of his brother-in-law, Dallas Martineau, 40, of Roy. Martineau was arrested for murder and is being held without bond in the Weber County Jail.
Officials have said little and the investigation continues. As of Friday morning, Martineau hadn’t formally been charged by prosecutors.
According to allegations spelled out in a probable cause affidavit, Martineau waited with a gun outside the Evans home until Evans emerged to smoke a cigarette. He then allegedly shot Evans several times, killing him.
“Dallas Martineau admitted to stalking his victim, lying in wait and shooting him to death,” the affidavit reads. The document doesn’t hint at possible motive.
