OGDEN — A man apparently angered after the vehicle he was traveling in was cut off by another car allegedly fired his gun at the other vehicle, leaving several bullet holes though no injuries.

Now the man, Caleb Baldwin, 41, of Roy, is behind bars, charged with four counts, including felony discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, according to records in Ogden’s 2nd District Court.

“Officer observed several bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle. One of the slugs was lodged in the head rest where one of the victims was sitting,” reads the probable cause statement in the incident. The incident occurred May 2 in South Ogden at the busy area where Riverdale Road meets Wall Avenue and the Weber County Attorney’s Office filed formal charges against Baldwin on Thursday.

Baldwin, booked into jail on Wednesday, is being held without bond.

The apparent spur for the matter started on Washington Boulevard around 24th Street in Ogden when the driver of the vehicle that was fired on accidentally cut off the Baldwin vehicle, according to the affidavit. Three people, including a child, were in the car that was fired on.

The two cars kept traveling south, and the woman driving the vehicle that cut off the Baldwin car “reported that the suspect vehicle then followed them for a distance,” the report reads. Ultimately, the Baldwin car pulled up aside the other one and Baldwin, a passenger, allegedly showed his gun and pointed at the woman in the other car, telling her to pull over.

“She did not pull over but kept driving, trying to get away from the suspect vehicle. The passenger in the other vehicle then started shooting at them,” reads the probable cause statement.

The shots were fired in South Ogden and South Ogden police responded to the incident, finding a 9 mm casing in the area where it occurred. A 9 mm gun was later found in the Baldwin home. “Caleb denied being involved or owning a gun. No other adult residents in the house admitted to owning a gun,” the probable cause statement reads.

Baldwin, a convicted violent felon, according to the affidavit, also faces a felony count of possession or use of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
