UPDATED: 3 killed in Layton; man called to confess, police say

A triple homicide is being investigated at a home in Layton, police said Friday, May 19, 2023.

LAYTON — A Layton man is in custody following a triple homicide Friday morning.

According to Lt. Travis Lyman, public information officer for the Layton Police Department, officers were summoned to the site by the suspect.

“At 9:45 a.m. Friday morning, May 19, 2023, Layton PD dispatch received a call from a man who stated he had just killed his wife, mother-in-law, and father-in-law,” Lyman said in a press release. “Officers immediately responded to the home at 1832 E. Gentile St. The man remained on the phone with dispatchers, and was instructed to exit the home where he was taken into custody.”

Upon their arrival, police arrested Jeremy Bailey, 34, and sought search warrants to more thoroughly process the scene.

Police also identified three victims:

  • Anastasia Stevens, 36, wife of the suspect.
  • Becky Stevens, 61, stepmother of Anastasia.
  • Donald Stevens, 73, father of Anastasia.

Officials investigate a home Friday, May 19, 2023, in Layton. A Utah man killed his wife and her parents and then called police Friday to report and admit to the crime, authorities said.

The press release added that, in addition to the three victims, three dogs had also been killed.

“Jeremy Bailey and Anastasia lived at the residence where the incident occurred,” the release said. “Becky Stevens and Donald Stevens were Nevada residents who were visiting this address.

A motive has not been identified and the victims’ causes of death is still being investigated.
