SUNSET — A man was arrested and booked into the Davis County correctional facility after he allegedly set fire to a police vehicle outside of the Sunset City Building on Tuesday.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, 46-year-old Chad Randal Livingston called Davis County dispatch, stating that he had “ran out of lighter fluid” after pouring it onto a police vehicle and starting a fire. Livingston reportedly told dispatchers that he had set the vehicle ablaze in response to “police” having told him “they were going to kill him.”

He further informed authorities that he was in possession of a torch, according to the arrest document.

The affidavit states that investigators determined Livingston had walked to the city building from his residence with the lighter fluid and the torch with the intent of starting the fire. Upon arrival, he allegedly doused the driver-side door and window as well as the vehicle’s roof, in addition to writing his name on the back hatch of the vehicle in lighter fluid.

The damage to the vehicle is estimated to be between $1,500 and $5,000.

According to the arrest document, Livingston told investigators after being taken into custody that he had set the vehicle on fire “due to him wanting to make a change.” He reportedly referenced being upset with “people using his name” as well.

“Chad stated he knew what he was doing was wrong but stated he wanted to get the attention of law enforcement, and figured lighting a police vehicle would accomplish this,” the arrest document stated.

Livingston was arrested on suspicion of third-degree felony offenses, including arson and property damage/destruction. He is currently being held on $10,000 bail.

Starting at $4.32/week.
