WEBER COUNTY — A 69-year-old man is dead as a result of a motorcycle accident that occurred in the Causey Reservoir area over the weekend.

According to Lt. Sean Endsley of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a crash involving a single motorcyclist on Causey Road, near the entrance to Weber Memorial Park/Campground, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“A male was riding solo on a motorcycle and apparently went off the road and crashed,” Endsley told the Standard-Examiner. “This resulted in some severe injuries, including severe head injuries.”

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, per Endsley, who said that a medical helicopter was dispatched after witnesses called 911. However, the victim — who reportedly was not wearing a helmet — was found to be “beyond help” and died at the scene.

The man’s identity has not been released, pending the notification of his next of kin. Endsley said that speed may have been a factor in the incident, which is being investigated by the Weber Metro CRASH Team.

Saturday’s crash comes during a period typically associated with increased loss of life on Utah’s roads and beyond.

“We’re right in the middle of what we refer to as the 100 deadliest days of summer — that run from Memorial Day to Labor Day — where we see increased crashes, increased accidents and, in general, increased incidents in the outdoors,” Endsley said. “So, really, our big message is for people to just slow down, drive safe and ride safe, in addition to watching your speed, wearing your seatbelts, wear a helmet and watch out for other motorists. … Be on the lookout for pedestrians and recreators.

“It’s summer, everyone wants to be outside having fun, but we all just need to make sure that we are just doing so safely.”

Endsley praised the efforts of deputies, Weber Fire District units and AirMed in responding to the incident.
