OGDEN — An elderly woman was hospitalized with critical injuries as a result of an auto-pedestrian collision that occurred in Ogden on Wednesday evening.

Lt. Will Farr of the Ogden City Police Department told the Standard-Examiner that officers responded to the 2400 block of Harrison Boulevard just before 8 p.m. after an 87-year-old woman was struck in the crosswalk.

A 58-year-old man was reportedly driving a Nissan Rogue eastbound on the 1100 block of 24th Street when he attempted to turn south onto Harrison. Although it was moving at a low speed, the man’s vehicle allegedly collided with the woman, who was later transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. As of Thursday morning, there was no update on her condition.

Farr could not confirm a KSL report that the woman had fallen off the hood of the vehicle and struck her head on the pavement following the collision and noted that the incident remains under investigation.

Impairment is not currently suspected as having played a role in the incident.

Farr implored motorists and pedestrians to be mindful of their surroundings and those with whom they share the road.

“Everyone just needs to make sure they keep an eye out, and often it’s good to make eye contact,” Farr said. “If you’re going across the street as a pedestrian, make eye contact with drivers so that they know you’re there. And, as a driver entering into a crosswalk, we often are just paying attention to traffic, but it’s important to pay attention to foot traffic and also bicycles because we’ve had both those types of incidents lately, and now we also are entering into the realm of motorized scooters and things like that.

“It’s just important to keep an eye out, be careful, take your time and go slow.”
