SOUTH OGDEN — A juvenile suspect was apprehended by police over the weekend after allegedly displaying a firearm at the annual South Ogden Days celebration.
According to a press release, officers from the South Ogden Police Department were providing security at the city’s marquee event at Friendship Park on Saturday when dispatch received reports of a group of juveniles dressed all in black at the location, one of whom was seen carrying a firearm.
Officers on the scene approached a group matching that description, at which point a male suspect pulled a firearm from his clothing, per the release.
The juvenile reportedly dropped the weapon and fled toward a large crowd gathered near the main concert stage after being “challenged” by officers, as described in the release. Officers continued their pursuit, eventually apprehending the suspect near the stage without further incident.
“All involved parties were accounted for, and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” the release noted.
No further information about the incident, suspect or others involved has been made available.
In the wake of the incident, South Ogden Mayor Russ Porter praised the responding officers for their efforts.
“It’s unfortunate that something like that has to happen, but our police and fire, they’re always prepared,” Porter told the Standard-Examiner. “They’re always on guard. They’re always vigilant for anything like that.
“They had him handcuffed and out of the park and the concert just continued. So, I thought they were excellent, as usual.”
