Multiple agencies were involved in a standoff with a Hyrum man who claimed to have killed his wife Sunday, June 29, 2025.

HYRUM — Two people were found dead following a standoff with police and an armed suspect in Cache County on Sunday.

According to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home in Hyrum at around 5 a.m. after dispatch received a call from a man allegedly claiming to have killed his wife. Upon arrival, responding units reportedly were fired upon by the 45-year-old suspect.

After taking cover, a deputy called for the office’s SWAT team.

The suspect later fired upon SWAT officers, who returned fire, after which a lengthy standoff ensued at the residence, located in the Valley View Mobile Home Park. According to Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen, SWAT units from his office as well as the Logan Police Department responded to the incident.

They were joined by officers and equipment from the Brigham City and Ogden police departments.

A negotiations team later made contact with the suspect, who reportedly sent pictures of a bomb vest and what appeared to be explosives inside the house. As the situation unfolded, an evacuation order was issued for the area of 100 S. 400 West and Main Street in Hyrum.

The scene was deemed secure just after 11 a.m., after which the evacuation order was lifted. Jensen did not identify the deceased people but noted that no injuries to law enforcement officers were reported.

The incident is being investigated by the Northern Utah Critical Incident Team and the Cache County Attorney’s Office. The attorney’s office could not be reached for comment.

In the wake of the incident, Jensen praised his agency’s deputies and law enforcement partners for their efforts.

“We very, very much appreciate the partnerships we have with all the agencies and their willingness to come up and help us on a pretty major critical incident,” Jensen told the Standard-Examiner. “It couldn’t have been resolved without their help.”
