LAYTON — A suspect is at large after an attempted robbery at a Layton credit union Monday morning, and police are asking for the public’s help in locating him.

The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. at the America First Credit Union branch at 425 W. Heritage Park Blvd., according to the Layton Police Department. A man entered the branch and handed a teller a note demanding money, a department news release stated. He fled on foot after the teller refused to comply.

Lt. Clint Bobrowski told the Standard-Examiner that, to his knowledge, the suspect did not make any verbal threats or display a weapon. His image was captured by security cameras and Bobrowski added that credit union patrons provided statements to assist in the investigation of the incident, which is ongoing.

The suspect was described as a white man measuring approximately 5-foot-7 in height and wearing a gray fedora-style hat, a gray and white scarf and dark clothing.

According to Bobrowski, while not a regular occurrence in Layton or Davis County at large, bank robbery attempts do occur from time to time.

“We’re not doing bank robberies every day, but they do happen throughout the year,” he said.

He added that police were canvassing the area near the credit union for surveillance footage in an effort to determine whether the suspect was using a vehicle or moving on foot and which direction he may have gone after the incident.

Anyone with information related to the incident is advised to call Layton police at 801-497-8300.

Starting at $4.32/week.
