OGDEN — Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection with an alleged robbery at an Ogden Canyon trailhead during which a woman was reportedly targeted while she and her 1-year-old child slept in their vehicle.
According to arrest documents, Nathanael Narciso Talavera, 23, and Tristen Lionel Maw, 25, were taken into custody and booked into the Weber County Jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery, burglary of a vehicle and aggravated assault.
Judge Reuben J. Renstrom of Ogden’s 2nd District Court ordered that both suspects be held without bail.
Per an affidavit of probable cause, the victim was asleep in the front passenger seat of her vehicle at a trailhead parking lot when one of two suspects opened her door, believing she was alone, and climbed on top of her, holding a knife to her side and demanding money.
He and a second suspect reportedly removed some items from the vehicle, including a blanket and a shoe, and threw them out onto the ground. As the woman used Siri to call 911 and upon noticing her child in the back seat, the suspects backed away, entered a red sedan and fled the scene, according to arrest documents.
The woman followed the sedan, per arrest documents, and later provided authorities with a license plate number that partially matched that of a red Chevrolet Cobalt registered to an Ogden address.
Deputies later found the Cobalt, driven by Maw, in the area of the address, according to arrest documents. Maw reportedly matched the description given of the suspect who held the woman down and wielded the knife during the alleged robbery.
According to arrest documents, Maw initially denied knowing anything about the incident but later made statements suggesting that Talavera had robbed the victim. Maw also reportedly admitted that he may have been an accessory.
A shoe print matching the Vans-style shoes Maw was wearing at the time of his arrest was discovered on the blanket that had been removed from the victim’s vehicle, according to arrest documents.
Talavera was located later and reportedly admitted to being at the scene of the alleged robbery with Maw. Meanwhile, arrest documents stated that Maw later confessed to being “triggered” after being called a “cupcake” by Talavera, after which the alleged robbery occurred.
Both men are slated to appear in court Thursday.
