According to a press release from the Ogden City Fire Department, crews were summoned to a reported fire originating from the roof of an industrial building located at 2600 Industrial Drive around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.
“Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke and flames coming from the roof,” the release said. “Further investigation determined the fire originated on the roof and did not extend into the interior of the structure.
“Crews evacuated the building while operations were underway and accessed the roof to initiate fire suppression. The fire was contained within minutes and fully extinguished within the hour.”
The release adds that the facility — identified as Timken — produces railcar bearings and that preliminary findings indicate the fire may have been caused by a newly installed piece of equipment used in the manufacturing process. Damages are estimated at around $10,000 and the incident is not expected to impact production.
